Andrew Torena, Brett Wamsley, Wyatt Berdinner, Anders Johnson, and Drake Alton.

The Regalado Foundation was started by Benjamin “Drake” Regalado Alton and a group of fellow pre-medical students at Weber State University. Drake was always inspired by the story of his dad who immigrated to the US from Central America as a teenager to find a better life for himself and his mother. Against all odds, he was admitted to and graduated from a prestigious university, succeeded in a fulfilling career, and started a family.

After Drake spent two years serving a mission on the Mexican border, his passion for helping immigrants in the US grew even more. He knew Ogden had an enormous immigrant population and in 2021, he started visiting local high schools to find ways to help people in situations like his dad’s get to college. Soon after, the Regalado Foundation was born. Since then, it has become an integral part of Ogden’s high school system and has received numerous awards and recognitions for the service it has provided.

The name Regalado bears importance, not only because it is Drake’s family name, but because it translates to “gifted” in English. This captures the essence of the foundation’s goal: to help gifted students who need guidance and financial assistance to achieve their goals.

The founding of this organization would not have been possible without the group of mentors and leaders who started it: Wyatt Berdinner, Brett Wamsley, Andrew Torena, Brenen Halliday, Anders Johnson, Tyler Smith, and more. Debra Francis and Camie Walworth of Ogden and Ben Lomond High, respectively, were instrumental in the founding and continuing work of the foundation.
